Gujarat State Eligibility Test or GSET is an exam for the role of Assistant Professors at Gujarat University or other institutions in Gujarat. Candidates prepare for this exam, wait for the dates, and schedule announcements every year. 

GSET is a vary prestigious exam that is  conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. The GSET test is performed once a year at 11-state centres at the state level. The major purpose of this exam is to check the eligibility of assistant professors in Gujarat University (GU) for 23 different subjects.

GSET Eligibility Criteria

  • GSET applicants must hold a Master’s degree recognised by UGC in one of the subjects selected for the GSET exam. 
  • The applicants who are holders of a UGC-recognised Master’s degree program or are pursuing the same are also eligible. 
  • Candidates who have a post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded from a recognised Indian university or a foreign degree/certificate/diploma from a recognised foreign university must ascertain the equivalence of the degree/certificate/diploma with Indian universities’ Master’s degree from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi. Therefore, such candidates will need to provide certification from the AIU following the GSET exam result. 
  • The minimum age of the applicants should be 18-years, but there is no restriction for the upper age limit. 
  • Candidates who have scored 55% (50% for socially/economically backward classes (SEBC), ST/SC, physically disabled, visual impaired, transgender candidates) in their Master degree from institutes recognised by UGC are eligible for the exam.  
  • Candidates who are still pursuing their Master’s or waiting for the final year results can apply for the exam. In addition, those who have delayed qualifying exams can also apply for the GSET exam. 
  • Candidates with a PhD degree and Master’s completed before or by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of declaration of the result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in their aggregate marks.  
  • The GSET exam is mainly for applicants from Gujarat, but people from other states can also apply. However, candidates from other states who come under the reserved category will not get any accommodation in Gujrat. They can only apply as general candidates. 

Provisions of eligibility for GSET exam

Here are the details for GSET provisions:

  • Candidates with delayed qualifying exams are eligible for the GSET exam only after they have cleared their Master’s degree or equivalent examinations with qualifying marks. 
  • Qualifying marks for general candidates are a minimum of 55% and 50% for non-creamy layers/SC/ socially/economically-backwards classes and physically-disabled/visually-impaired students. 
  • The applicants in the above category must complete their Master’s degree within two years of the declaration of the result of the GSET exam with qualifying marks. If they fail to comply with the condition, they will be disqualified.  

Documents required for GSET exam

  • Scanned passport-size photo in JPEG format 
  • Final mark sheet for all semesters in Master’s degree
