What If You Couldn’t Finish High School? Ways to finish it

Whether you’re too busy, tired, sick or just plain lazy, missing school doesn’t mean you’re education stops. While not many students choose skipping as a fun end-of-year activity, sometimes life happens and it’s unavoidable. So if you can’t make it to school (or class), how do you finish the year without graduating high school? This article will give ideas on ways to complete your last semester.

As per William D King Education is said to be the most important thing in anyone’s life; finishing high school is often viewed as crucial for continued success in today’s ever changing world. Missing one or even several days of class can lead into weeks of missed work and lost grades, and for the highly motivated student, it might not seem like a big deal; but sooner or later life will get in the way. Missing school can happen to anyone at any age, just ask Hannah Montana about her high school career. College students often don’t attend classes because of work schedules and extracurricular such as Greek Life or Athletics. It’s no wonder that some people choose to drop out after sophomore year once they realize how much effort is required in college courses!

While dropping out of high school might seem like an appealing option to many students (and even some teachers), it’s far from ideal and often comes with adverse circumstances: you never graduate high school, you lose your diploma. You won’t be able to attend college or apply for jobs, and any unskilled job is better than no job at all! A high school diploma is the first step into getting a well-paying job; those without one will most likely end up working minimum wage with few opportunities for advancement. Neither of these options sounds appealing, so you might as well buckle down and try to finish the year strong!

Choosing how to complete your education often depends on several factors: How far behind are you? How many days have you missed? What kind of student are you – motivated or unmotivated? Is it too late in the semester to start over? Are there any excused absences that will allow you to make up credit(s)? These questions can be answered by your guidance counselor, who will be able to help you choose the best option for your situation.

Some possible ways to make up credits include:

  • Take a credit recovery class during the summer or at a community college.
  • Complete an online course.
  • Attend night school in order to catch up on any missed work.
  • Request an excused absence in order to complete makeup assignments. For example, if you were sick and missed several days of class, you might be able to pick up missing work from your teacher(s). You can then submit it before the end of the year with proof of illness (doctor’s note) in order to make up credit(s).
  • Attend summer school. If you’ve made up all of your work and still fall behind, attending summer school will allow you to catch up with the rest of the class before the upcoming year begins.

What if you couldn’t finish high school?

Imagine for a moment that the only path to the middle class was through college. That’s not true today but it will be soon. We need 100 more colleges to meet demand in ten years or jobs won’t get filled, earnings will go down, GDP will go down. The average worker with a bachelor degree makes $1 million over his lifetime; without one he makes $300 thousand. There are already 3 times as many people seeking entry into colleges than there are spots available. And millions of students who do find a way to college don’t graduate.

What are the consequences of not being able to finish high school? Is it true that your life is ruined?

I have news for you, it’s an outrage but it’s not the end of the world. There are always options and nothing is permanent. For those who think they can’t go back to school because they’re too old, here’s good news: age has nothing to do with it (I’ll tell you how). Maybe you didn’t like school or couldn’t afford it; well, there’s a solution even if you’ve failed before –it doesn’t matter. Maybe you need to prove yourself first—well that might take time but that does not mean your life is over either (I’ll tell you how). Maybe you dropped out because of pregnancy or a serious illness; that had to be tough, but it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Conclusion by William D King:

It’s always better to be in school than not. But if you can’t go back, don’t despair! There are plenty of opportunities out there and I’m going to tell you what they are.

These are just a few ways to make up credits in order to graduate high school on time. Missing days of school is never ideal, but sometimes it’s unavoidable! Make sure that if you do decide to drop out or take a break from high school, it’s for good reason and won’t hinder your future goals. Good luck with catching up!
