Yep Search Engine – Ahrefs Launch Its New Search Engine Worth $60 Million

Dmytro Gerasymenko, CEO of Ahrefs (SEO Tool), had announced through Twitter about creating a new search engine in 2019. And now Ahrefs has launched its brand new Search Engine “Yep”.

Yep.com has been in development for over two years and is now live in beta. The search engine is currently available in English and Russian, with plans to add more languages in the future.

In these three years, ahrefs did a lot of work in this new search engine “Yep” and without any outside help has spent $ 60 million to improve it.

What is Yep?

Yep is a new search engine developed by Ahrefs, which is one of the largest and most popular SEO tools providers. The search engine is designed to provide users with accurate and relevant results by using Ahrefs’ vast data and resources.

Yep is a general purpose web search engine, which is trying to make itself visible on Google’s option. But as we have seen so far, many search engines have come which have tried to establish themselves as an alternative to Google and none have been successful.

Soon Yep is likely to be available in all countries and languages and as soon as it happens, there will be an announcement from ahrefs.

Yep, Revenue Sharing Model: How It is Different from Google?

In a nutshell, the revenue sharing model is quite different from Google’s. According to the new information, Google gives 68% of its revenue to content creators, while Yep gives 90% of its revenue to its content creators. Here’s what Yep says:

  • “Let’s say that the biggest search engine in the world makes $100B a year. Now, imagine if they gave $90B to content creators and publishers.
  • Wikipedia would probably earn a few billion dollars a year from its content. They’d be able to stop asking for donations and start paying the people who polish their articles a decent salary.
  • There would be no more need for paywalls and affiliate links, so publishers who’ve had to resort to chasing traffic with clickbait articles and filling their pages with ads would be able to get back to doing investigative pieces and quality analysis. A citizen journalist uncovering corruption on the side of a full-time job could get compensated without having to spend time trying to monetize content.

And the best thing? You don’t have to be an expert to benefit.

  • Let’s say that you love pancakes more than anything else in the world. Now you have an incentive to grow that passion – imagine getting fairly paid to share creative recipes, publish photos of your creations and teach the rest of the world how they, too, can make the fluffiest pancakes ever. Independent creators everywhere will finally be able to flourish.”

What is the Yep Privacy Policy?

Compared to other search engines, Yep does not collect any kind of information(User Searches, IP Address, Location etc.). Yep does not share any kind of user information with anyone. But as its privacy policy page mentions, privacy policies can change at any time.

Crawling

For now Yep collects data with the help of ahrefsbot, but in future, as per ahrefs, it will replace ahrefs bot with yepbot. For the last 12 years ahrefs is crawling the web. So far ahrefs is using ahrefsbot to power its link data base and SEO insight.
